linux on Dimension 5100

Yesterday I installed the ubuntu netinstall on the Dell Dimension 5100 at the office. The installation went smooth, apart from failing to start X that is. The graphics board is manufactured by ATI (X300). Previously I always had the choice to go with NVIDIA which is not much of a hasle to install.

Installing the ATI drivers proved to be a bit more complex, but following this page on the ubuntu forum I managed to get the setup working in no time. The display I got with it is a really nice 17″ widescreen (1680×1050, like my laptop).
